History of the centre
The vision for a functioning centre operated by volunteers came from within the PRGI Committee and countless hours of negotiations with the Waimakariri District Council (WDC). This lead to an MOU between PRGI and WDC which validates the arrangement.
This arrangement is unique to the district. The PRGI work with the Waimakariri District Council through our PCC-Sub Committee to help facilitate the day-to-day operation of the Pegasus Community Centre (PCC). All bookings for the centre are managed by the WDC.
Looking ahead
The WDC currently lease the facility which is a temporary site until a new purpose-built centre is constructed.
After many years of the PRGI lobbying the WDC, in 2019 the council confirmed they had set aside funding in their 10 Year Plan to purchase land for a purpose-built community facility.
A new facility is anticipated within the next few years. Having a larger purpose-built community facility offers more space to host events and other activities, and provide more services to both Pegasus and the wider surrounding areas.
