KEY NOTE SPEAKER

Michael Kwant | Senior Ranger Biodiversity | Waimakariri District Council

Topic: Managing our Waimakariri beaches and the role the Northern Pegasus Bay Bylaw plays.

We’re excited to welcome Michael Kwant, who will speak about managing our Waimakariri beaches and the vital role of the Northern Pegasus Bay Bylaw.

The Northern Pegasus Bay Bylaw sets the rules for protecting our beaches while balancing recreation, conservation, and community use.

The Council’s goal is to ensure the public can safely enjoy our beautiful coastline while also protecting and enhancing its unique environmental values.

Mike shared:“There are a number of Council staff involved, including Sylvia and Lexie, who oversee the Bylaw and support the Advisory Group—providing opportunities for various stakeholders (including PRGI) to be involved. As a Biodiversity Ranger, I get to do the fun stuff - managing the day-to-day operational aspects of beach life.”

Get behind-the-scenes insights on how our beaches are cared for and what the Council team does to protect and enhance our beautiful coastal environment and why it is so important.
