Thanks to everyone who joined us at the Pegasus Community Centre on Friday 20 June to mark Matariki with community, connection, and reflection.

Ranger Joseph from Te Kōhaka o Tūhaitara Trust gave an inspiring talk about the significance of Matariki, sharing how the stars guide traditional planting and fishing practices, and how this time invites us to remember loved ones who have passed.

After warming up with a free sausage sizzle, After warming up with a free sausage sizzle, attendees had a chance to explore the wetlands in their own time, using maps provided by the Trust to discover special Matariki planting sites, each symbolically connected to the themes of remembrance, renewal, and looking forward.

Huge thanks to Te Kōhaka o Tūhaitara Trust for sharing their knowledge and to New World Ravenswood for generously supporting the event.

Thanks to Mayor, Dan Gordon, Councillor, Brent Cairns, and Woodend-Sefton Community Board Chairperson, Shona Powell, for coming along.

Matariki is a time to pause, connect and look ahead together — and it was wonderful to do just that with our community.
